This section on careers includes information on employment with John Woods and also details on what training opportunities are available within our Nursery division.

As a developing and changing business we recognise the need to ‘Grow our Own’ supervisors and managers for the future. We believe our employees are key to building a successful customer focused business.

Training schemes, including our nursery apprenticeship, provide the opportunity to identify people with the right qualities, who can then develop within the business.  The opportunity for career development and a culture of life long learning ensures a low turnover of staff, giving us stability and a wealth of people with the appropriate nursery skills to produce an outstanding product and service.

Most of our key staff started life as Apprentices or Management Trainees, including our Managing Director John Lord.

The Nursery Apprenticeship

Nursery ApprenticeshipThe Nursery Apprenticeship is run at Woodbridge in Suffolk and leads to a horticultural qualification, as well as gaining 'traditional' nursery skills. To apply you should have at least 4 good grades at GCSE level or equivalent, including English and Maths, be a good communicator, organiser, show potential to lead, be self-motivated and be genuinely interested in a career working with plants and people. We can offer in return the opportunity to learn and earn, gain a broad experience across all departments and an excellent career path upon completion of the course. Support and assessment is provided by a Horticultural College and staff on-site.

career opportunities

In addition to the Nursery Apprenticeship we occasionally have positions available for those who already have experience within the trade and are looking for a new challenge.
